Many of the roads in the Town of Verona have evolved from small country roads to roads that are used for regional trips. Hauling of heavy loads can damage Town roads, so on the following roads hauling permits are required year round for loads over 5 tons per axle or 10 tons for any two truck axles that are under 8 feet apart:
In addition, the spring thaw can greatly affect the structural strength of Town roads. The daily ‘freeze-thaw cycle’ can stress the pavement. The distress is then multiplied by the effect of heavy loads. Thus, the hauling of heavy loads is prohibited on the following roads from approximately March 1 to April 30 (the Town Road Patrolman can suspend the ban when he feels the threat to the roads is over):
The Town suggests that residents and business owners:
If you have any questions, we encourage people to call before they haul. Call the Town Hall at 845-7187 if you need assistance with these regulations. This will also help us track who is hauling where so we can continue to refine our policies. A map and additional information on weight limits is attached.
The State of Wisconsin also has season road weight limits. For more information on state roads go to: http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/com-drv-vehs/mtr-car-trkr/ssnl-wt-rsrctns/default.aspx
Thanks for your help in protecting our roads , especially in spring when they are weakened because of water saturation.
