Town Property Assessments

The Town Board has approved a
contract for
assessment services with Musser
Appraisals for tax year 2011. Mr.
Musser reviews valuations as of
January 1 of each year. Adjustments
are made in order to comply with
state assessment laws. Any changes
in property values made by the
assessor will require the need for a
"notice of assessment". These
notices are mailed to the
property owner of record as shown
with the Dane County Property
Lister. 2011 notices were April
2011 to property owners which
experienced a change in valuation.
The
Open Book period is
established at that time.
This time frame
provides citizens the opportunity to review valuations of all
properties
in the Town of Verona that will be taxed for year. Open Book meetings with the assessor may be
scheduled to allow property owners
to discuss values placed
on their real
estate and personal property located within the town.

BOARD OF REVIEW Per
WI State Statutes the Town Board
must convene Board of Review after
the Second Tuesday of May.
When a re - evaluation occurs the meeting could be adjourned until
the town assessor has completed his annual review of the town properties,
the assessment roll,
held his open book proceedings, finalized the roll book and signed the
book over to the Town Board for their "review". The Town Board members review
properties and make corrections to the assessment roll if needed. This
meeting also allows town property owners an opportunity to appeal
the value placed on real estate by the Town Assessor. Forms and appeal
procedures are available thru the town office or the WI Dept of Revenue
website (see state info below).
