Dane County Adopts New Zoning Code

This week all property owners in the Town are receiving postcards from Dane County explaining that the County has adopted a new zoning code, and thus the zoning district(s) associated with each property in the Town will change.

With this rezoning, some minor corrections are being made, but for the most part, your old zoning is being replaced with a very similar new district. To compare your old zoning district with the new one, you can go to: There you’ll also find fact sheets about each zoning district. Please note that that your property assessment is based on actual use of the land, not the zoning.

If you have concerns about your new zoning district, please call Dane County at 267-4115. The staff there can make modifications if needed. On May 16th, Dane County staff will be available to answer questions at the Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. In the weeks following that, the Town Plan Commission and Town Board will adopt the new zoning code
