Well Testing Kits for Residents Impacted by Flooding Available at the Town Hall

Residents,

If your lot was recently flooded, your private well may be in danger of contamination from pollutants carried in floodwaters. Public Health of Madison and Dane County and the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene are providing free water test kits to private well owners impacted by the flooding.

If you think our well may be contaminated, feel free to pick up a test kit at the Town Hall. We have fifty and they will be given out on a first come first serve basis. Please read the attached instructions before picking up a kit because timing is critical:

  • Before using the kit your well needs to be disinfected. It’s best to have this done by a licensed well driller or pump installer.
  • Then you can collect the sample, but you must do so on Wednesday or Thursday morning and then bring it directly to the Town Hall for storage and pick up.
  • Used test kits will be picked up at the Town Hall by Public Health on Wednesday, August 29; Thursday, August 30; Wednesday, September 5; and Thursday, September 6th. Each day they will pick up the test kits by 9:30 a.m.

More information is below. If you have questions, please call Public Health at 243-0357.
