Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission seeking Town Representation

Town Representation Needed

Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission
After 20 years of service, Lyle Updike is stepping down from the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission.  Lyle has served in leadership positions on the Commission and has been a strong advocate for towns and the protection of our land and water resources.  We very much appreciate Lyle’s years of leadership and service, his knowledge of the complex issues facing our environment, and his dedication to stewarding and improving our natural resources.  These are big shoes to fill, but Lyle has offered to mentor and provide guidance to the new appointee!

Commission Role and Responsibilities:
The Lakes and Watershed Commission conducts or coordinates studies of local surface waters and groundwater, maintains liaisons with other public agencies involved in protecting or managing water resources, develops public information programs, and makes recommendations regarding water-related portions of the Dane County budget.  More detail on Commissioner powers and duties is spelled out in Wis. Stats. 33.44 and 33.45.

Term and Compensation:
The position is a three-year appointment.  Commissioners shall be paid actual and necessary expenses incurred while conducting business of the commission and shall be paid the same per diem as members of county board committees.

Process:
The Commission appointment falls under Chapter 33 of Wisconsin Statutes which states the DCTA submit at least 2 nominees (who are not a supervisor on the county board and who reside outside the city of Madison) to the county executive.

Application Information:
Please send a letter of interest including relevant experience to Renée Lauber at lauberconsulting@gmail.com by November 1, 2023.

The DCTA Executive Board plans to interview candidates in November and make recommendations to the County Executive for a term that would start in January 2024.
