Western Dane County Joint Municipal Court

The Western Dane County Joint Municipal Court serves the Towns of Verona and Middleton.   The Honorable Judge Todd E. Meurer is the Municipal Judge for this court.

If you are visiting this website, it is likely you have been issued a traffic citation.  We understand that no one is EVER happy when this happens.  We hope to make the court proceedings easy and convenient for you.

Your citation(s) will be handled by the Western Dane County Joint Municipal Court.  

The Municipal Court does NOT work for the Deputy who issued your citation.  The Deputy does NOT work for the municipal court. The Municipal Court is an INDEPENDENT BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT that will handle the legal processing of your citation.  

MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU SHOULD NOT APPEAR IN COURT IN PERSON ON THE DATE/TIME ON YOUR CITATION.  The court DOES NOT HOLD in-person initial appearances.  The court will NOT be in session at the date/time listed on your citation.  However, you MUST enter your plea to the court prior to the date/time that is listed.

You can save much of your valuable time by using the plea form located on this webpage; or mailing the plea form given to you by the officer; OR sending your plea by email to the clerkwdcjmc@town.verona.wi.us.

If you enter a guilty or no contest plea and pay the amount on your citation by the date/time on your citation, your case will be considered completed and closed.

If you enter a guilty or no contest plea and do not pay the amount on your citation by the date/time on your citation, you will automatically be granted 90 days to pay.

If you plead not guilty, your case will be scheduled for a pretrial telephone conference with the municipal prosecutor.  A notice of the date and time will be mailed to you. 

If you do not enter a plea by the date/time on your citation, a default judgment will be entered against you and you will automatically be granted 90 days to pay the forfeiture amount listed on your citation.

You also should know that there are important advantages to you to have your citation legally processed by the Western Dane County Joint Municipal Court instead of the Dane County Circuit Court.  First, traffic citations handled by Circuit Court have many more mandatory fees and are much more expensive.   For example, a common traffic citation in Circuit Court is $175.30 whereas an identical citation in this Municipal Court is only $98.80. Secondly, citations handled in Circuit Court are posted online and accessible to the public.  Citations in this Municipal Court are not posted online.
